THE DESPERATION OF THE HOLIDAYS

by Lucy Blomfield

TIMES OF CELEBRATION ?

The holidays are times of celebration, happiness and family - being with those we love.

OR

The holidays are times that we endure rather than enjoy. We are in the midst of celebrations, but feel apart and sad. Perhaps it is not possible for us to be with our family or friends. Those dearest to us have died, or they have moved away. And so we are alone, or we experience isolation although we are present at holiday festivities.

DOES ANYONE CARE FOR ME?

Is your experience similar to what is described above?

I'm writing to you because I too have known this sorrow. I cannot know your individual experience, but have known dejected and surreal hours that can intensify at this time of the year.

I'm not a psychologist or professional counselor.

I am, however, writing as someone who cares for you. I am writing this because I have come to know a greater Someone who I know cares for me. He also knows you, knows your anguish, and loves you.

DESPONDENCY

You may have heard about Someone, about God, who cares for you. But you do not and cannot believe it. Right now, you are simply trying to not be overwhelmed with negative, paralyzing thoughts. Knowing there is someone somewhere who's thinking of you, who's yearning for you to HOLD ON, who thinks your life is important is all there is to hold onto. This is my hope for you as I write these words.

IF YOU FEEL YOU CAN DO SOMETHING

If you feel you can do something active, you could send an e-mail. Perhaps you could write a few sentences describing your situation. I will take time to try to understand what you have written in your e-mail, and send you a reply.

My e-mail address is: share@whynotsuicide.com

Thank you.
